A seasoned singer/composer/guitarist/drummer equally at home performing his own songs or accompanying others with percussion and vocals.
The son of a hobby-guitarist, Doug diverted from a path in the visual
arts when he was asked to join a rock band
in high-school and subsequently found himself bitten
by the music bug.
Since that time, he's traveled a road from solo acoustic artist through
numerous electric bands of various stripes and back again having performed
along the way at some of the East Coast's most notable venues as well as
countless small cafes and listening rooms.
Give a listen - you won't be disappointed.
Doug has also appeared as percussionist with Cletus & Lori, Lori Grigsby & Sandy Moyer, Teporah, Suzanne Brindamour, Lisa Taylor and
currently performs on djembe and vocals with singer/songwriter Lea as part of her band Wilpower.
Visit www.thisislea.com for details.
If required, Doug can provide a three piece band (Doug on guitar
and vocal, Lea on percussion and vocal and Will Henderson on bass).
people have said nice things....
<>
Concert presenter David Morreale:
"Doug Alan Wilcox is so
smooth, light just slides off him.
....a voice that just aches with the kind of loneliness that comes from being a major
talent in a minor world. "
<> Cliff Morgan of "The Coffee
Mill", Clayton, North Carolina:
"Doug Alan Wilcox's music
makes you feel as though you've known him forever. He reminds you that the art of the
troubadour is alive and well..."
<>
Lyricist Sarah Blue:
"...clever and emotional...
a rare and appealing combination. "
<> Singer/songwriter Lori Grigsby:
“Doug Alan Wilcox is a uniquely engaging modern-day
acoustic storyteller whose style reflects a variety of influences....
he draws you in and takes you places.... it is a personal experience that you
won't soon forget”.
<> Singer/songwriter Lea:
“(Doug plays)... relax and just feel good music”.
<> Ray Ruskin of Kensington, MD's Kensington Coffeehouse on Doug's music:
"....rich, mellow, mature, complex, and
inspiring."
<> Unity Church Second Saturday Concert series:
“(Doug has a) …"give it all you
got" way of performing. He takes everything out of the bag... and shows it to you. He
doesn't hold anything back."
<>
Washington Area Music Association Hall of
Fame recipient Donal Leace:
"Doug Alan Wilcox has a
…unique timbre and…vocal quality that make the listener want to hear more."
"Doug has a strong, resonant
voice with a warm and easy delivery; the songs are layered with a full sound that rolls
out and embraces you,
words and music finding their willing mark."
<>
Robert MacMillan, of the "Old Town
Crier" (Alexandria, VA):
"There are these magnificent
passages and flashes of insight where Wilcox lays down lyrics you know no one else has
ever thought of doing before."
